Michael is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Alabama. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1998. Prior to obtaining his bachelor's degree, Michael served four years active duty in the United States Army where he earned the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal. Michael also received the Southwest Asia Service Ribbon with Bronze Star for serving 12 months in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during Operation Desert Falcon.

He has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of project design, management and delivery. His experience extends across a broad range of project types and construction materials, ranging from multi-story concrete structures to low-rise wood-framed structures. Michael also has experience with structural building assessments after major disasters, such as Hurricane Ivan and the April 2011 tornados in Alabama.

Michael has an extensive and unique design-build experience serving as both Engineer of Record and Specialty Design Engineer on projects. Michael has developed working relationships with many valued general contractors, steel fabricators and cold-formed framing subcontractors in an effort to use structural engineering principles to streamline and support practical construction and fabrication processes.

For the Preschool Partners project, a 14,000 square foot preschool facility, Michael served as the Engineer-of-Record as well as the Cold-Formed Framing Specialty Engineer and Steel Framed Connection Design Engineer. By taking on the responsibility of EOR and Specialty Design Engineer, Michael was able to reduce shop drawing submittal preparation and review time as well as eliminate costs associated with having multiple structural engineers’ involvement. In addition, because he took on two roles, field coordination response time was dramatically reduced during construction.

Michael is an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of Alabama (SEAoAL) and has served as the organization’s president. He is a certified climber and rescuer and he completed the Tower Climbing Safety & Rescue Basic Course. Michael has received the Applied Technology Council training (ATC-20 and ATC-45) to perform safety evaluations after natural disasters and has also been certified by the State of California Emergency Management Agency as a Disaster Service Worker. Michael holds a certificate of verification of his engineering record from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and is also licensed as a professional engineer in the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and Wyoming.
